Bonchurch - Steeped in History

Bonchurch is the island’s best preserved Victorian village, which attracted many writers and artists, such as Charles Dickens, Lord Macaulay, Karl Marx and Thackeray. The poet Algernon Charles Swinbourne spent his childhood at East Dene whilst Admiral Jellicoe lived at St Lawrence.

Bonchurch provides a perfect setting for our artists, authors and philosophers as well as an ideal spot for a getaway break. Visit Bonchurch’s tranquil pond or visit the local pottery by the bay with its picturesque fishermen’s cottages and interesting coastline.
